Abstract:
In support of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) and national government policies to measure and eradicate poverty, the Statistical Research and Training Center (SRTC) spearheaded the project "Towards Evidence-based Monitoring, Assessment and Reporting of MDG Progress at the Subnational Level". The project sought to assist local governments in beefing up their statistical monitoring and reporting capacities. The conclusion of the 1st and 2nd phase of this program yielded relevant assessment of data and training needs of the three barangays selected for the project. Furthermore, a Training of Trainers (ToT) was conducted to familiarize and equip local government officials in Community-Based Monitoring System (CBMS). The last phase of the training program mainly included discussions on CBMS and MDGs, identifying development problems using the CBMS data, and preparing socio-economic profile and development plan for the barangays. Participants were trained on working with CBMS tables and charts and customizing them for specific indicators. Overall, the training participants gained useful knowledge that they can use in their respective local development planning.
