Abstract:
It has always been the thrust of the national government to ensure food security in the country. This required proper monitoring of food supply combined with efficient policies that will guarantee adequate levels of production. The Bureau of Agricultural Statistics (BAS) targeted to answer this need through the research and development of a "Broiler and Swine Information (BSI) and Early Warning System (EWS)" specifically dedicated to livestock and poultry. This is a follow-up project to the SRTC research study in 2001 which developed a methodology for EWS of agricultural commodities. For the study, both demand and supply forecast models were constructed using regression techniques and life cycle models for both broiler and swine. While the BSI-EWS focused on the demand side, improvements on the supply model were still performed. To enhance the system’s responsiveness to market changes, industry monitoring and improvement of the data system for broiler and swine were also tackled.
