Abstract:
The project Broiler and Swine Information and Early Warning System (BSI-EWS) was carried out in support to the generation of statistics, and compilation and analysis of data needed by stakeholders in the agriculture industry. EWS forecasts for broiler and swine are used to validate estimates and analyze future trends. However, forecasting is only being realized at the national level while there is an existing need to expand the EWS concepts to the different regions in the Philippines. Most especially to the top producers of broiler meat and pork. The third phase of the BSI-EWS focused on the expansion of the EWS concepts to Region 3, Region 4-A and Region 10. Said regions are the top three regions in the production of broiler meat and pork. A survey on broiler hatcheries in nucleus and multiplier farms for swine was conducted to monitor the performance of broiler and swine production in the country. The Phase 3 was also implemented to further enhance the methodologies in the Phase 1 and 2 of the project. Three components of the EWS approach are the following: data generation, data organization and forecasting, and rendering of products and services. For data generation, a survey on improved questionnaire for broiler production across the regions was conducted, as well as a pilot survey on liveweight factors for broiler and swine to enhance the current data system of the Bureau of Agricultural Statistics (BAS). For data organization and forecasting, development of forecasting models for production, supply and demand of broiler and swine was administered. Lastly, for rendering products and services, enhancement of the EWS webpage was completed to facilitate a more efficient dissemination of publications on broiler and swine production.
