Abstract:
After the conduct of a series of Livestock and Poultry Information and Early Warning System (LPI-EWS), efforts to also improve the database of other livestock and poultry commodities was likewise conceptualized. The LPI-EWS 2014 research project was implemented to support the further expansion of EWS concepts in regions and to determine methodologies to further improve livestock and poultry statistics. Specifically, the project aimed to: a) enhance existing supply and demand forecasting models for broiler meat and pork, b) produce "Broiler Situation and Outlook" and "Swine Situation and Outlook" on a quarterly basis, c) update livestock and poultry databases and data systems, d) determine appropriate methods in the collection of data on slaughter and dairy statistics, e) strengthen linkages with the private agribusiness stakeholders through exchange of information, and f) expand the project concepts to the Batch 5 regions namely, CAR, MIMAROPA, Zamboanga Peninsula, CARAGA, and ARMM. The same operational framework was adopted which was comprised of four components: data generation, data organization, forecasting, and rendering of products and services. Existing models for production, supply, and demand for broiler and swine were revisited to ensure validity. Project evaluation revealed that collection and compilation of data from all sources has improved. There was also evident progress in the network and access of data as well as in transactions and exchanges between regulatory offices. Further, trainings were successfully conducted and early warning systems for broiler and swine at the national level were developed and are continuously being improved.
