Abstract:
To support the maintenance of a reliable information and early warning system for livestock and poultry, continuation of the study "Improvement of Data Systems on Animal Slaughter, Movement of Live Animals and Meat in Carcass, and Meat Production at the Sub-National Level" (DSASMMP) is essential. The core component of the DSASMMP project is the implementation of guidelines on the collection of data on animal slaughter which provide strategies towards efficient and accurate recoding and submission of consolidated data. This project aims to a) improve data collection methodology on animal slaughter, b) improve system of compilation, consolidation, processing, and organizing of data for monitoring of movement of live animals and meat products, c) standardize existing monitoring and survey forms used by Bureau of Agricultural Statistics, National Meat Inspection Service (NMIS), and Local Government Units (LGUs), and d) develop a data processing system for consolidation and generation of systems output tables. Pre-testing of an Animal and Meat Inspection Report Form (AMI-RF), project briefing and trainings, and survey data collection were conducted. Evaluation of the survey operation showed that while all issues can be addressed by improvement of data collection and data processing and strengthening of coordination among implementing agencies, there are issues difficult to address such as limited number of personnel for manpower, lack of weighing scales, poor internet connections, and non-provision of incentives.
