Abstract:
Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 2 prioritizes the ending of hunger, achievement of food security and improved nutrition, and promotion of sustainable agriculture. Goal 2 underscores the need not only for eradicating hunger but emphasizes the role of addressing related concerns in its achievement. This includes ensuring the quality of food that meet the required nutritional content to improve well-being, and tackling the problem of food insecurity brought about by lack of support for the agricultural sector. These interrelated concerns are being monitored by the indicators under SDG 2 with the objective to holistically address gaps in the countries’ relevant policies and programs. This scoping study focused on the indicators with Tier II and Tier III classification at the national level. Through assessment tools and consultations with government agencies, the alignment of global and local understanding on relevant concepts and definitions were determined, the availability and quality of data and data sources were assessed, and the readiness of focal government agencies were evaluated. With this, a recommended categorization of indicators was developed wherein SDG 2 indicators were classified based on readiness for local tier promotion or the need for further research study.
