Abstract:
Sustainable Development Goal 6 (SDG 6), adopted by the United Nations as part of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, aims to ensure availability and sustainable management of water and sanitation for all. The Philippines has made significant progress in expanding access to improved water sources and basic sanitation facilities. However, challenges persist, such as ensuring water security and maintaining ecological integrity of water systems. The Philippine Statistical Research and Training Institute acknowledges the importance of this goal, hence, a scoping study focused on the Tier II and Tier III indicators of SDG 6 in the country was done. The study explored relevant literature and methodologies for the indicators, and collaborated with different stakeholders. As a result, SDG Indicators 6.1.1, 6.2.1, and 6.b.1 were recommended to be prioritized for a methodological study. SDG indicators 6.1.1 and 6.2.1 have the same data sources and stakeholders, hence, a methodological study in one of the two indicators can greatly help the monitoring of the other. SDG Indicator 6.b.1 was also recommended since it encourages the LGU and the community to have more effective and appropriate solutions to address water and sanitation challenges.
