Measuring the Digital Economy using Data from Households and Individuals 2021

Abstract:
With the fast-paced advancement of technology, the economy has evolved under the phenomenon of digitalization. Economies across the world shifted to accommodate the rise of the digital economy which covers economic activities that utilize the internet and digitized data. However, due to its dynamic nature, measuring the digital economy has been a constant challenge for all countries. This paper aims to develop a framework for the measurement of the digital economy of the Philippines through reviewing the different initiatives done by various countries in measuring their digital economy and attempting to contextualize it in the Philippine setting. This paper also includes a list of proposed indicators, their possible sources of data, and initial estimates. Ultimately, this paper recommends digital economy indicators for the Philippines and presents its initial figures that tell the current status of the digital economy in the country.
