Simulation Study on the Estimation of Annual Number of Hours Worked for the Computation of Labor Productivity Statistics

Year: 2020
Author: Roxanne Jean L. Elumbre & Sabrina O. Romasoc

Abstract:

In order to make the Philippines’ employment and productivity statistics more illustrative of current working conditions, there have been efforts to improve the official methodology in estimating labor productivity in the country. This research paper aims to come up with a recommended methodology to estimate annual working hours which will serve as an input to the computation of Labor Productivity. Using this proposed method, annual estimates of working time were generated from the quarterly information gathered from the Labor Force Survey. Ultimately, labor productivity statistics using hours of work were computed and results were compared with the current method of computing labor productivity using total number of employed persons.
